Interior design concepts | Imago Interiors

The principles of interior design are based on a few basic concepts.
By examining each of these concepts and how they relate to one another, a good interior designer will create designs that are sure to please.

So what are these interior design concepts?

There are four main interior design concepts. These are:

Interior design concept one | Colour

The most basic of all interior design concepts is the use of colour.
Colour is the underlying concept that gives any space a sense of unity.
Usually one primary colour and a secondary colour is best.
At most, two or three additional colours can be used within a given space.
Care must be taken not to use too many different colours otherwise the room will be overpowering.
If the room is small, you can make it appear bigger by using brighter colours for the floor and walls, but the ceiling should always be the brightest colour.
The aim should always be to use colours that make a room attractive and create harmony.

Interior design concept two | Scale

The second phase to consider is the matter of scale.
The overall scale and proportions of an interior must relate to the architecture that the interior belongs to.
If furniture pieces are too small, a space has the feeling of being cold and uninviting - regardless of the colour scheme.
On the other hand, furniture and accessories that are too large for a space will make the room feel claustrophobic.

Interior design concept three | Style

Next phase is the matter of style.
Before you start, take the time to plan your project and choose an interior desgn theme that you will follow everywhere.
Make sure you keep in mind your taste in furniture and accessories when considering various themes.
Sometimes a theme that reflects your personality and interests works well.

Interior design concept four | Floor plan

The last phase is the floor plan. Be aware of your space limitations before moving and placing furniture.
By careful thought and taking the time to place the larger elements in the room carefully, it is easier to choose accessories that enhance the final look.
Even if the first three points above are done correctly, the room may fail to please if everything is not positioned to best advantage.
